There have been a number of widely-publicised scams that have been performed around Mystery Shopping. Like with many scams, they involve the victim paying money to the “scam artist” in the hope / expectation of receiving something in return.
The most common scams that are sadly linked to Mystery Shopping are where scammers pose as Mystery Shopping companies or agencies, and they offer to place would-be mystery shoppers onto a “special” or “exclusive” list, with the promise of unrealistically lucrative and attractive assignments – in exchange for a “small registration fee”.
As stated repeatedly by the Mystery Shopping Providers Association, no reputable company engaged in Mystery Shopping will ever charge a Mystery Shopper a registration fee.
